Blog Post Eight: Digital Story Assessment

Content (20 points)

The student produces an original, personal narrative piece in the form of a video in order to tell a story to their audience. The student should ideally choose to tell a story that they are passionate about. Students are encouraged to use their own original photos and videos for their project, however they may include outside sources. The student’s personal narrative is similar to the narrative texts that we read together in class. The student tells a story which is organized starting with an introduction to a problem, character, setting, or experience, and ends with a concluding statement that is reflective or resolves the problem introduced at the beginning of the story.

Mechanics (20 points)

The student develops an experience for their audience by using effective techniques, well chosen details, and well structured sequences to tell a story. The student uses dialogue, pacing, character and setting descriptions, and reflections effectively to accurately tell a story. The story is focused and organized. Any text that appears in the video must be spelled correctly. The video should be between two and a half or three and a half minutes in length.

Word Choice & Speaking Voice (15 points)

The student has chosen words, phrases, telling details, sensory language (auditory or visual) to convey a vivid picture of their experience, story’s setting, or character. When the student speaks in their original voice over narration, the student must speak clearly and have proper diction so that the audience can understand what the speaker is saying.The student demonstrates a command of language: parallel structure, various types of phrases and clauses, capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and writing style.

Demonstration of Knowledge (10 points)

The student choose a topic that they are passionate about. The speaker conveys this importance to their audience through the video’s tone. The student’s video contains the same themes and ideas learned in the narrative stories we read together in class. The video has purpose; the narrative and the visuals are highly appealing to the audience.

Technology (10 points)

The student produced a video using photos and videos. The student gathered online materials and digital sources. After its completion, the student published their digital story on the Internet. Any image or video that was used in their video that did not belong to them was cited using MLA format.
